Welcome to August!
The overwhelming need to simplify our lives and get back to basics continues this month. This has been going on for quite some time, and the coronavirus is a symptom of this same Saturn-Pluto energy. The ongoing protests are also a manifestation of this energy but with a different spin. The bottom line is how do we take care of ourselves as individuals, as a community, as a society? Basic human dignity is at stake here, whether that is in our healthcare system, our racial injustices, or our own self-care. The highlights for August include:
There is a LOT happening this month that I did not mention but from my perspective these are the top transits this month. You should pay special attention to the Mars transit of the stellium in Capricorn of Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn which is already powerful enough without Mars adding fuel to the fire. Another reason this Mars series is so important is because Mars turns retrograde on September 9th and so all of these Mars transits are the first pass in a series of three for each of these planets. Mars adds explosiveness and energy to an already volatile situation so it’s concerning to see this beginning now when there is already so much trouble in the world. Mars Retrograde will last from September 9th through November 13th and it will take until January 2021 for Mars to complete it’s 3rd pass of Saturn so this energy we are entering right now will be around for a while. Mars, simply put, is energy. When we add energy to a difficult situation (I am thinking of the federal interference in local protests) it feels like it can turn dangerous rather quickly. Energy can show up as more protesters, a stronger federal presence, a more violent response from either or both sides, just as a few examples. When we think about how this applies to our own lives we can look at where we have been struggling the most so far in 2020 and see that we are going to have another opportunity to “get it right”. Whether that is a positive or negative experience for you personally depends on your own vibrational set point. If you are full of optimism and new opportunities expect more of the same, but if you have been dealing with negativity and financial hardship unfortunately that is what’s being aggravated by this Mars series of transits. I haven’t been writing or posting on social media hardly at all this year because a part of my own work this year is to look within and build up some of my own fundamentals, particularly in regards to health and wellness. With my physical health creating a new foundation of strength and vitality. And believe me, I have had to revert to the basics in order to start from scratch in order to heal. Basic things like posture and correct body placement both at rest and during movement have been one of many things I have been studying this year. Who knew I would read so many books of physical therapy in one summer? With the larger wellness picture I have greatly increased my meditation time and also made it a more formal practice. I have been working with a nutritionist. And perhaps most important of all I have invested my energy into vibrational alignment using the law of attraction. So these basics: how to use my body, how to feed my body, how to connect more deeply through mindfulness and meditation, and ultimately how to raise my vibration so that I can be in the “vortex”. It feels like these are the core things in my life right now, and connecting with these things in a mindful way truly does make me happy. And as they say in the Law of Attraction: there is nothing more important than how you feel. I tell you my story as an example of what I expect in the month of August for myself. I expect these areas that I have invested in (mind, body, spirit) to be challenged in new ways. And I expect that I will be able to celebrate my progress and lean into my practices. My desire for alignment will grow greater. My desire for inner peace will increase. My desire for a healthy and happy body that I am attuned well with will flourish. I am loving 2020 so far, even if it hasn’t been easy all the time, it has certainly been rewarding. If things have been going well for you they will continue to go well as long as you are open to making adjustments. But if things have been tough then August will be a huge wake up call. Since I am a proponent of the Law of Attraction I will tell you that paying attention to how you feel and working your emotional guidance system toward a better feeling thought is imperative this month. There are many areas where as are powerless, but we always have the ability to feel a little batter and move upward in our vibration. August, with the help of Mars, is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging whether or not we are ready to actually change our lives for the better, here and now, today, or whether we will continue to believe that someone else is in charge of making us feel better. Even though I have put my writing aside for most of 2020 my plan moving forward is to offer a monthly summary of the energies which I feel are the most prominent. For August it is certainly Mars! If you like what I had to say about this or want to request additional writing on something else happening this month please feel free to comment or send me a message with the request. Simplifying my life does involve spending less time writing posts and articles but I still love to write and so I would love to hear what you want to read about the most. As always, all my love to you. And remember this quote by Rhonda Byrn: “If you are feeling good, it is because you are thinking good thoughts.”

When I see all these news updates about the Amazon, and I see that within a week we will have 5 planets plus the asteroid Juno in Virgo I am increasingly concerned for our Mother Earth. By next Thursday evening we will have the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Juno all in the earth sign of Virgo and any time we get so many planets in one sign we get extremes. In this case, in my fears, environmental extremes. The moon moves on through quite quickly but the rest of the bunch are in Virgo for weeks, until mid-September when Mercury and Venus finally move off on September 14th.
A stellium (a group of 3 of more planets) in a sign indicates an extreme, and here we have the opportunity for an extreme disaster or an extreme wake up call, perhaps both. I am not trying to fear monger, I am simply sharing my thoughts on this issue in the best way I know how. I believe we can find a good solution that can take care of us all. I do not know what the solution is, only that when we get one extreme we also get a path to bridge the gap so we can cross over to the other extreme. Please let that be responsible and sacred stewardship of our planet. Join me in sending positive prayers for a peaceful and healthy Earth as we move more fully into Virgo season this week. Weekly Forecast ~ Week of November 12th
Despite a change in energy and moving in a more fiery direction with the planets we have some other planets causing slow downs this week. The dreaded Mercury retrograde begins on Friday plus Venus retrograde comes to an end the same day. Add in Mars changing signs and moving into Pisces on Thursday and we go into this weekend not knowing which way is up. Hang in there, I promise it’s going to be okay! Monday November 12th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Capricorn The Capricorn moon gives good energy to focus on work tasks today. Accomplishment feels good to the Capricorn moon! Tuesday November 13th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Capricorn void-of-course at 9:13 AM CST Moon enters Aquarius at 9:45 AM CST The energy shifts this morning from the capitalistic tendencies of Capricorn to the socialistic tendencies of Aquarius. Okay I admit that’s not exactly accurate but it paints a picture. Capricorn is entrepreneurial and wants to climb the corporate ladder. While Aquarius is humanitarian who wants to help to level the playing field among all involved. Where do you naturally fall on that scale? Most people have a little bit of both but today make room for the humanitarian. Wednesday November 14th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Aquarius "I enjoy talking to you. Your mind appeals to me."--George Orwell Sometimes I tell people that Aquarians live most fully in their own heads. In order to get to know them you are going to have to do it through ideas. They are mental creatures and they way in is through speech. Don’t be afraid to talk about your interests as your interests actually make you more interesting to others. It’s a moon in Aquarius thing. *wink wink* Thursday November 15th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Aquarius void-of-course at 9:58 PM CST Moon enters Pisces at 10:41 PM CST Mars Sextile Uranus Mars enters Pisces What it means: Let’s start with Mars and Uranus in sextile. This is a spicy, saucy little mix that should have you tapping your toes. If the energy is a little more anxious that you like then get moving. Work yourself into any sort of moving meditation whether that’s walking, running or even jumping jacks. Doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are immersed in the present moment. If your mind wanders that’s okay bring it back in by focusing on your breath. Time your breath to your activity and there you have it. You are meditating. This Mars-Uranus energy is also great for martial arts where you mix a combination of forms with power. As you practice your forms you must be in the present moment to be able to do them well. We also have Mars changing signs from Aquarius into Pisces later today. Mars spent a long time in Aquarius (about six months except for the time he dipped back into Capricorn). We are ready for a change. And where Mars in Aquarius wants to fight to save humanity, Mars in Pisces wants to save our soul, our spirit, our connection to God. Some recommendations for this transit (Mars is in Pisces until January 2, 2019) are to put your energy (Mars) into spiritual pursuits (Pisces). Put it into music, into intuitive work, into physical activities like swimming. If you want to increase your meditation or chanting this is a great transit under which to build upon what you are doing now. And if you are not doing any such work now it’s a great time to explore options that might work for you. Into the mystic, all. Questions to ask: How can I channel the energy that I feel into something productive and physical? How can I remain aware of the present moment? How can I reaffirm my connection to spirit? What activities can I get involved in that make my heart and soul rejoice? How can I harness my intuitive and trust the guidance I receive? Friday November 16th ~ Moon in Pisces Venus Station Direct Mercury Station Retrograde What it means: Venus retrograde is about going back over past relationship patterns in order to create new and better patterns of relating that are (Ideally) more healthy. For some of us this means that we have had an ex come back so we can rehash some of our issues. For others the ex did not come back which also allows us to work out our issues. And for still others ongoing relationships have gone through changes and challenges. If both individuals involved are mature and willing to do the work then they can succeed at working through the problems. If they are not behaving maturely or willing to work things out then you are bound to see some splits and divisions. But ultimately we are taking a look at our relationship patterns to see how they can function better and sometimes that means the end of old relationships, too. But this isn’t always the end of relationships. Millions of relationships survive and get improve under Venus retrograde. The direct station of Venus means retrograde period is ending and it’s time to move forward once again, if through familiar territory at first, armed with what you know about your situation after these past weeks of Venus lessons. Venus went retrograde about five weeks ago during the first week of October so think about where you have been metaphorically between then and now. Now think about where it is you would like to go as you move forward and let go of past patterns. The other big news today is also about retrograde: Mercury Retrograde is here again! Mercury rules over such things as communication, technology, travel … you know, all the things we need every single day to make our lives function smoothly! It’s traditional that Mercury Retrograde causes obstacles in these areas so if you come across a traffic jam or some miscommunication or a computer that isn’t working right try to keep a sense of humor about it all. With patience we can always get through the slog, and with humor we can do so gracefully. The thing that Mercury retrograde does well though is that it allows us to regroup, to recover, to revitalize our spirit and to recuperate our body. Allow yourself to slow down, step back and rest. One extra thing of note here is that Mercury Retrograde lasts through December 6th so if you plan to do some holiday shopping do it with caution since Mercury also rules over merchants and merchandise. Make sure you keep all receipts and be extra cautious when buying electronics. Questions to ask: What lessons have I learned over the past five weeks during Venus retrograde? How can I let go of patterns that no longer suit me? What is it I really want to bring into my relationships to have them feel as good as they possibly can? What areas of your life do you need a break from? Where can you regroup and work on becoming refreshed so that when Mercury goes direct you can try the approach from another angle? Saturday November 17th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Pisces It’s a great day to slow down and just go with the flow. If you have some errands to run go ahead, just be patient and flow with it. Don’t be surprised if you find something interesting to investigate along the way. Allow yourself to discover and see the world through new eyes. Just don’t rush it or you will probably trip! Sunday November 18th ~ What’s going on today: Moon in Pisces void-of-course at 2:04 AM CST Moon enters Aries at 9:56 AM CST Once the moon moves into Aries we will be ready to attack whatever is on the agenda today with vigor. Aries loves to be active so don’t hold back. Engage your energy and have some fun, too! Weekly Forecast ~ Week of January 22nd
It’s a relatively quiet week from an astrological perspective but the truth is we are building up to next week’s Supermoon and Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Leo so I wouldn’t be surprised if the sensitives among us were already feeling the tension build in anticipation of that Full Moon Lunar eclipse. The themes this week seem centered around Mercury who rules communication and thought patterns. How do we use our words? Are we encouraging others or manipulating them with what we say? How are we using the thoughts inside our own head? The other major theme this week involves Mars ingress into the sign of Sagittarius that happens on Friday. Read more about that below! Monday January 22 ~ What’s going on today: not a lot When we have a quiet day it allows us to focus on ourselves and our personal goals. Since today is Monday this makes it a great day to kick off your weekly goals both in terms of fitness and health as well as work in a great way. Use today to set yourself up for a week of success. Tuesday January 23 ~ What’s going on today: not a lot Another day to build on the momentum that started yesterday. We will also be dealing with the themes that started last week with Jupiter and Pluto meeting energetically in the sky. This aspect continues to be triggered throughout this week and we feel the theme of personal leadership coming up again and again. Use today to engage in this energy by deciding to be the authority in your own life. Wednesday January 24 ~ What’s going on today: Mercury conjunct Pluto What it means: Mercury conjunct Pluto is about speaking to power. This can be encouraging and creating a groundswell of support through brilliant and uplifting rhetoric or it can be cruel and manipulative, depending on how a person uses this power in their own life. Questions to ask yourself: Are you trying to control others? Are your words wise? When you speak the truth can you do so compassionately or are you brutal about it? Thursday January 25 ~ What’s going on today: Mercury sextile Jupiter What it means: When Mercury and Jupiter get together there is sometimes a risk of saying too much. Since Pluto is also involved (see the info from yesterday) sometimes our words can be used against us when we speak of things that are better kept to ourselves. I mention this simply so you can keep it in mind today and all week. On a positive note Mercury and Jupiter can be incredibly optimistic and hopeful so we can harness the natural optimism and infuse that into our own lives. Questions to ask yourself: Are your thoughts generally negative or positive? Is there a way to better phrase the way you think about something to gain a more helpful and hopeful perspective? Friday January 26 ~ What’s going on today: Mars enters Sagittarius What it means: Both Mars and Sagittarius have energies that love to take risks and just go for it so with that in mind we have some potential excitement under this transit! Mars stays in Sagittarius until mid March so we have a couple of months where our impulses may get the better of us. Personally I love taking risks and I love being spontaneous but I also think at least a little foresight will help before jumping straight in. With Saturn in the sign of Capricorn this should help balance any recklessness. On the other hand if there is something you always wanted to do but have been afraid to try … hey this is the perfect time! Questions to ask yourself: What risks am I ready to take? What have I always wanted to do but been too afraid to try? How can I be more active in general in my life? How can I have more fun? Saturday January 27 ~ What’s going on today: not a lot This is a great day to focus on the themes of communication, leadership, and risk-taking. Since the daily energy is mild we have the opportunity to focus on the bigger picture. Sunday January 28 ~ What’s going on today: Mercury square Uranus What it means: The mad scientist in all of us is abuzz with ideas. As is the revolutionary within us all. Today has something of a wild pace to the day. Our mind moves faster than usual and we may also be dealing with impatience, ours or from other people. It’s a good day to revolutionize something in your own life … just take care you don’t metaphorically throw the baby out with the bath water in your impatience to change! Questions to ask yourself: What could I do differently? In what area of my life am I the most impatient for change? What creative approach could I take to accomplish the change I seek? What are you working on this week? I would love to hear about it! Well Hello World! We are off to a kicking start for 2018. Energies are flowing and we are feeling good! At least the is the feedback I am getting from my clients and am experiencing for myself. I hope the new year is treating you just as well!
Here is the weekly rundown of the astrology for the week ahead. We have some really lovely energy this week so keep reading to see how you can harness that energy to work for you in your own life! Monday January 15 ~ What’s going on today: Jupiter trine Pluto is exact on Monday but this gets reactivated again next week when Mercury acts as a trigger by conjoining Pluto and making a trine to Jupiter. What it means: This is a signature for power and we have the opportunity in our personal lives to harness our own power. Ideally this is done with wisdom and generosity although we will probably see examples in other places on the spectrum play out over the next week or so in public both through our jobs and in the media. Taking a leadership role is supported by this energy so it is time to take charge! If other people are on a power trip consider that while there is potential for confrontation it is also better to choose your battles wisely. Questions to ask yourself: How can I step into my personal power more strongly? What areas of my own life do I need to take control of at this time? Tuesday January 16 ~ What’s going on today: New Moon 27 degrees Capricorn What it means: New moons contain an amazing infusion of positive energy. Where it falls in your personal chart determines the area in which you feel it most strongly in your own life. Generally the sign of Capricorn is about setting goals and taking action to make them into reality. We can use this new moon to reinvigorate our resolutions for the year. If you did not make any resolutions perhaps it is time to sit down and write out your goals for the week, the month, the year. If we do not plan we probably will not make it happen. Take advantage of this energy and use it to give you a positive push toward creating the magical life you truly desire. Questions to ask yourself: What are my goals and what am I doing to achieve them? What area of my life needs structure and direction? What can I do today to help set myself up for a successful week, month and year ahead? Wednesday January 17 ~ What’s going on today: Venus ingress Aquarius What it means: Most people who are familiar with astrology have strong feelings about Venus in Aquarius. Many of them strongly oppose this placement. I am on the other side of this debate. I have Venus in Aquarius, many of my friends and family also have Venus in Aquarius, and it can be lovely, but there is a catch. Venus is Aquarius is not very comfortable showing affection. In fact, if someone with Venus in Aquarius likes you they will more likely completely ignore you than talk to you. It’s quirky, I know. But the truth is that we have the chance to develop relationships based on intellect, conversation, interests and causes instead of on how we feel. There is a place for feelings but if we can create relationships based on these broader interests then they are more likely to last. Creating relationships solely on attraction creates a situation where what we are attracted to over time might change, or we might meet someone else who is similarly attractive, and the relationship might falter. But if we create relationships because we love how someone’s mind works, because we share an interest in playing the ukulele together, because we have enlightening and interesting conversations on many topics, because we both enjoy trying new ethnic recipes, then those shared interests keep the relationship dynamic. Questions to ask yourself: How can I explore my relationships from my mind instead of from my feelings? How can I show someone I care that is unique? Do I have a wide variety of people in my life or all they all similar … and then is that a good thing for me? Thursday January 18 ~ What’s going on today: not a lot It’s not an active day from an astrological perspective but we can continue working on the themes from earlier this week: leadership, power, goals, actions, relationship. Friday January 18 ~ What’s going on today: Mercury sextile Neptune and sun enters Aquarius What it means: With Mercury sextile Neptune there is a dreamy quality to today and it is a wonderful day to do manifestation work. Creating a vision board or imagining your life with your goals accomplished are great activities for today. There is also a musical quality to this energy where I imagine the world as musical theater today. So if you feel like breaking into song go right ahead! It fits the energy and I doubt anyone will wonder too much about what you are doing! With the sun entering the sign of Aquarius we start a new zodiacal month. Aquarius is associated with innovation, inventions, humanitarian causes, revolutions and rebellions, among other things. People with the sun in Aquarius are often seen as aloof but how I like to explain it is that there is so much going on inside an Aquarians head that they often forget to pay attention to the here and now right in front of them. Aquarius is also a fixed sign so look expect to see people behaving a little more stubborn than usual with two planets (the sun and Venus) now in Aquarius. Questions to ask yourself: How can I renovate my own life so it is more original and more authentically me? Is there something in my own life that I am rebelling against … and if so how can I finally overcome? Am I being stubborn because I am right or because I hate being wrong? Saturday January 20 and Sunday January 21 ~ What’s going on these days: not a lot Both Saturday and Sunday are quiet days astrologically but this gives us the chance to catch up with all this energy! Things have changed enormously in the past month or so from an energetic perspective so now we can work on harnessing this energy in a positive way in our lives. Again the themes for week are power, leadership, goals, actions, relationships and originality. What are you working on this week? I would love to hear about it! Since I have already written an article on the lunar eclipse today (find it here) I thought I would do something different today and offer you a tarot spread to play with in honor of the full moon in Aquarius! There are many ways to honor the natural cycles of the earth and sky and one of them is to open yourself to celestial guidance. This tarot spread can be done on the day of the eclipse or really at any time. I like doing this during the eclipse to harness the universal energy. If you are new to tarot and wondering how to prepare for a tarot spread I like to do a couple of things to get ready: First - Sit in meditation for a few moments in order to clear your mind and to focus on the question at hand. Second - Shuffle the cards while focusing on your intent. You may also cut the cards if it feels right. Third - Pull the cards and interpret how they apply to you. I would love to hear about how you experience the lunar eclipse and this tarot spread!
New moons are times of beginnings. They are times when we can take a fresh look at things and see from a new perspective. We can set our intentions and recommit to our goals about what is important in our lives. Perhaps we have just a small glimmer of hope or perhaps we have a full fledged plan but either way we can use the time of the new moon to plant the seed of change in our patterns in order to get where we want to be in life. This Sunday July 23 we have the new moon in Leo perfecting at 3:46 AM in the very first degree of Leo, only a few hours after the sun makes his ingress into the sign where he stays for the next month. The sign of Leo is about allowing our true selves to shine. You are an individual and as such you have something unique to offer the world. Leo helps us to recognize our individual gifts and share them with others. Leo appreciates when others notice how special they are as well but we must first find our own gifts in order to share them. If you lack confidence the new moon in Leo is a wonderful time to plant the seed of courage in your heart to gain more self-confidence and a healthy sense of self love. If this idea triggers something scary inside perhaps it is a good idea to think about this more deeply. If you wish to further develop your leadership skills the new moon in Leo is a great time for focusing on this area of life as well. There are a lot of ways to improve leadership skills and maybe for you it means reading a book about the subject. Or maybe it means volunteering as a big brother or big sister to be a role model for someone younger. Or perhaps it means clarifying your own vision about where you wish to take your life or your organization. Any of these intentions can be set under the new moon in Leo and then built upon over the course of the next month. You can also look at see where the new moon falls in your own birth chart by house or aspect to see what part of your life is being highlighted. If you do not know how to do this an astrologer (like me) can help you figure this out. For example in my chart the new moon falls in my fifth house of fun, creativity, romance, and children. These are some of the areas in my life I can find highlighted over the next month or that I can willingly choose to work on over the next month through my intentions. I could set an intention to do more creative art projects with my daughter. I could also set an intention to create more fun, romantic time for myself and my husband. Usually we feel pulled in a direction already and so we can use the new moon to further along a goal we are already considering. The Sabian Symbol for this new moon is “Blood Rushes To A Man’s Head As His Vital Energies Are Mobilized Under The Spur Of Ambition”. This symbol makes me think about what it means to be really alive. Are you taking risks in your life? Are you engaging the life you truly desire to live? Stoking that inner fire is something that can make you feel alive. Leo is a fire sign, after all, and passion is a big part of all fire signs. Are you living passionately? If not what are you going to do about it? Come on, live a little! Live a lot! One last thing about this new moon … it is heavily tied into action. Don’t just set the intentions … do something about it! Don’t just wish something would change in your life … take the steps needed to make it happen. For example if you are dreaming of going back to school them enroll and go get some books that will help prepare you for your studies. If you want to travel more then don’t just plan a trip for next year go out on a day hike with a picnic and explore the area where you are living right now. If you want to learn to cook don’t just watch cooking shows on TV and instead start getting your hands dirty in the kitchen. Whatever it is take action. The stars are helping you right now the bring your desires into reality through motivation and industry. The full moon in Capricorn occurs on Saturday June 8 at 10:06 PM here in the mountain time zone. This full moon is tightly conjunct Pluto in Capricorn so it is highlighting issues surrounding power, business, politics, structure, and the idea of hierarchy. Who is in charge after all? Money is power … are we letting money control our lives? Are we consciously making decisions for ourselves or are we letting our subconscious urges push us in certain directions? Under this full moon it is a good time to look within and face our shadow. Are we afraid? What are we going to do about it? Harnessing our personal power and claiming responsibility for our own lives are the key to freeing ourselves from unhealthy patterns. The Sabian Symbol for the full moon at 18 degrees Capricorn is “The Union Jack Flies From A British Warship”. This symbol certainly seems to echo the theme of power. Historically Great Britain would police the seas with their warships to provide protection. This is an example of how we use the potential of violence in order to maintain order in our culture. Is this being used appropriately? Are those in power using their power wisely and justly? Or is power being abused to further aims that do not reflect the good of the whole? I think many see corruption in our current system and this full moon will highlight any abuse of power so look for the in the media. I expect this full moon to be a precursor to the major solar eclipse happening next month on August 21 so this full moon is just the beginning. In our personal lives we can deal with this full moon my addressing issues of control and power within our own lives. Are you a control freak? Can you let go of that need? Using the weeks following the full moon to “let go” is a perfect use of the lunar cycle. So letting go of control, of fears, of power struggles … this is the time to address these things in our lives. Depending on where the full moon falls in your natal chart you may feel this full moon highlighting a certain area of your life. For example the full moon falls in my 4th house of home, not only my physical home but also my inner world and psychology, so issues surrounding my home and family may arise, or I may do some soul searching regarding shadow issues. Choosing to set an intention at this time to better handle this area of life in some way is a great way to use this energy. For example I may renew my commitment to meditation and spend some extra time meditating about what might be holding me back internally from fully being the person I see myself being. Stay calm, reflect upon power and control instead of finding yourself in the midst of a huge power struggle. Of course if you are interested in standing up for a belief you have and showing your support publicly go right ahead. Standing up for the little guy is going to continue to be a theme this summer. Just remember to use that power wisely! Namaste! And Happy Full Moon! Mars-Pluto aspects can be dangerous. I don’t say this to scare you but to inform you that there is some pretty intense energy coming up. Mars in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn exact on Sunday July 2 at 5:58 AM here in Montana but this is something we will be feeling all week leading up to Sunday. We will also still feel this influence fading as we move into next week so it will still be active over the 4th of July. Everyone will be affected by this energy but if you have planets in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) you will feel this more strongly. You will also feel this more strongly if you have a Mars-Pluto aspect in your natal chart (like I do). With the opposition aspect there is usually another person involved. Mars-Pluto has some difficult energy: obsession, anger, violence, power, ambition, brutality, compulsion, competitiveness, explosiveness. We can become obsessed with another person. We can become angry at them. We can even desire to control them through power, compulsion or brutality. On the positive side this aspect deals with the appropriate use of power and ambition in order to create balance. Being in touch with your own power and being able to use that power wisely is a privilege that comes with practice and wisdom. Some famous people with this aspect in their natal charts are Marlon Brando, Tippi Hedren, and Ian McKellen. Interestingly all of these examples are known for their work as activists so I see activism as another way to engage this energy responsibly. The reason I am writing this is to allow people time to prepare mentally and emotionally for some difficult energy. Here are some example scenarios for the week: I have a toddler … I expect her to try to get her way more than normal as we approach the weekend. Tantrums, crying, yelling even hitting may be things that occur. I must be careful that I do not use brute force to deal with her potential aggression. By being aware of this pattern I can take a deep breath and handle any behavior problems with the proper amount of discipline instead of allowing the energy to overwhelm me and create more problems by overreacting. In relationships if things seem rocky then one or both parties may resort to stalking the other. There could be power struggles which accomplish very little. If you are prone to fighting then this is much more likely to occur while tempers are volatile and people are feeling more aggressive than usual. The way to handle these issues, if they arise, is through practice, patience and compromise. When we feel the need to “win” or be “right” in a relationship we are only sabotaging the long term success. Do not try to win the battle or you may end up losing the war. Another danger here is that people may psychologically project their negative feelings onto others. Projections can be insidious and hard to recognize so try to be self-aware. If you feel that another person is angry at you or upset with you ask yourself if you are in fact upset with them or angry at them instead. If you are driving or traveling be extra careful as I expect drivers to be more aggressive than usual. Since this is a holiday weekend here in the states there may be more people going out of town and some drivers could be reckless in their rush to arrive at their destination. If you are traveling this week or this weekend (I am one who will be on the road) please try to drive safely and to not engage with any road rage or competitiveness you may meet out there on the road. It is better to take your time than to end up in an accident because of carelessness or because of anger. Some ways to use this energy wisely is to engage in sports. Go for a hike. Play baseball. Go for a run. Doing something that is normally both active and competitive helps to channel this energy in a positive manner. Another fun thing to do: sex! This is a very sexual energy occurring so you can have some fun in the bedroom as well by having some energetic and perhaps even risque lovemaking. Since Mars is such an active planet physical activities are preferred to sitting around! But since we can push ourselves quite hard under this influence please make sure you stay hydrated and rest when you need to rest, otherwise you could overdo it this. If you like to drink alcohol please try to refrain from drinking too much as the combination of alcohol and potential for anger can be dangerous. Self-control is one of the things being challenged by this energy but as long as we are conscientious about it we will be fine. Alcohol and fireworks can also be dangerous. Even fireworks alone need extra care this year so be cautious if this is a part of your celebration this year. If you do find yourself getting obsessed, angry or too negative you can channel the energy effectively by doing something physical. Punch a pillow. Go for a run. Work in the garden. It is important to stop feeding the difficult energy and direct it elsewhere because if we don’t direct it elsewhere and instead keep feeding it we will eventually explode (metaphorically) and that is not pretty. If you have any questions about the energy this week I am happy to answer questions! Stay cool all! |
