We are betwixt and between.
Every six months we go through what astrologers like to call ”eclipse season”. This summer we have a series of two eclipses happening in the signs of Cancer and Capricorn. These signs are already under a great deal of pressure with Saturn, Pluto and the south node in Capricorn while Mars and the north node are in Cancer.
The first eclipse occurred last week, on July 2nd, and was a solar eclipse new moon in Cancer. Since that time we have had Mercury station retrograde and we are gearing up for another eclipse next week on July 16th, a lunar eclipse in Capricorn. We are in the middle of a gateway and there is no turning back.
When I use the term “gateway” I mean from a metaphysical sense. We are no longer our past selves but we have not yet fully developed into our future selves, either. We are evolving. We are in transition. There is no going back to the old way of being. And that is a good thing.
As we move through this gateway toward the next chapter of our lives we have some choices to make. I recommend that the choices you are making right now involve creating more simplicity in your life by releasing any old baggage you might be carrying around with you. Baggage can come from broken hearts, childhood trauma, past lives, and so much more. It can come from the story we tell ourselves, our negative self talk, our core belief system. Where do you carry your baggage? Why do you still carry something so heavy that weighs you down? This is the time for release, with the full moon lunar eclipse conjunct Pluto in Capricorn.
When we take responsibility for ourselves and our own life, we gain freedom. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but believe me that when all your needs are met you gain the freedom to turn to other areas of interest. And so clearly understanding our responsibilities and simplifying our lives in such a way that it makes our lives easier and more enjoyable. We have over-complicated our lives and this summer is all about re-examining our priorities so that we can determine whether we are living the life we choose or whether we are just letting life happen to us. Make the choice. Be proactive. It’s your life, afterall.
So as we prepare to step through the gateway as we pass this next full moon lunar eclipse, remember that you still have free will, you still have a choice. You might need to tear some things down in order to rebuild better and stronger life on a more stable foundation but that’s okay! It’s better to go back and start fresh than to keep living precariously and feeling that sense of imminent doom. Release the past. Forgive yourself and others. And reach out and allow yourself to fully embrace the new and improved version of yourself. With great power comes great responsibility, and now we fully understand, finally, that we are truly responsible for our own lives.

Today on my nature walk (and sometimes run) I asked the angels to give me some guidance. I told them I would look for the signs and all they had to do was send them to me. The angels love requests like this so I invite you to try this for yourself. The signs I saw were, in order, a squirrel crossing my path, a crane taking flight, an old woman with a walker on her own nature walk, and a dragonfly.
Squirrel teaches us about being busy and stockpiling resources for leaner times. He asks the question of how is your activity levels? Are you doing good work or just busy playing? He encourages playful activity but he is also a hard worker. Ironically I was thinking about buying a new rebounder (mine is falling apart) when I saw him and I immediately realized the message was to conserve my resources. But a secondary message is also that there are many ways to be active and I can add more of those playful ways into my life instead of spending money right now. Squirrel also reinforces the general notion that being active is a good thing, a fun thing, a thing that we should all do more of, especially out in nature.
Crane taking flight from the water is a wonderful image, and especially popular in eastern cultures where crane represents longevity, it’s a reminder to plan long term. When we build on the lessons of squirrel here we are being active for the long term in order to have excellent health throughout a long life. We also must invest in things that will benefit us over the long term, so that we see the ongoing benefit of the way in which we have invested our time, energy, and money. Another way to look at this as water is our emotional well being, and here we are about to soar above our calm emotions. It’s a reminder to stay in balance and that if we are to be successful in our endeavors we must come from a place of emotional calm and grace.
The old woman walking on the nature path with her walker was a wonder to behold. She was stooped to the point that it was quite an effort for her to raise her head in order to greet me on the path but she did so cheerfully and with gusto. Her walker was one with wheels and a seat to sit and rest upon, if needed, but she was walking along at a healthy clip, even in the Texas summer heat. I can see that she probably has a million reasons not to go out walking alone in nature but the fact that she was doing so, and doing so with obvious joy, gave me incredible joy as well. I realize the message here is that no matter where we are we can still do something to keep active, to push ourselves, and to embrace the natural world all around us. I am so grateful to have seen her today, and I will also say it’s not the first time I have seen her on that path.
The final sign I saw today was a dragonfly, in fact I saw several. With dragonflies there is also a link between water and air, like with crane. Rising above our emotions, getting a fresh perspective on an emotional issue, like a breath of fresh air, is one of the great lessons that dragonfly teaches. He is also colorful and shines in the sun, a reminder to let our “true colors” show to the world.
Have you had any encounters in nature recently? Do you ask for guidance in this way? Do you pay attention to omens? I would love to hear your experience! I keep saying, and I will say it again here, that Mercury Retrograde is a wonderful time for healing the past, and when we do that we are free once again.

On this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer here are some ideas for gentle and healing intentions. Since Cancer relates to our inner selves, our emotional well being, our intuition, our family, our past lives and our history it''s a wonderful time to focus on these areas.

Over the couple of weeks we are coming up against a stone wall ... Mars opposes Saturn and then Pluto. This isn't an easy time. We can feel beat down and rejected. But on the bright side this teaches us determination.
Like that saying goes:
"Fall Down Seven Time, Stand Up Eight." We got this.
Early Monday morning we have the new moon in Gemini. The sign of Gemini is an air sign, and also a mutable sign, meaning it is “changeable air”. This means that Gemini is often making changes midstride. Sometimes, just when you think you have finally caught up with Gemini they are already going off in a new direction. Sometimes Gemini gets stereotyped as being “two-faced” due to their changeable nature but I prefer to think of them as “multi-faceted” which has a much nicer ring to it!
With every new moon we have the opportunity to set new intentions. Since Gemini is a mental air sign it’s appropriate they the intentions this month have something to do with the way you think and/or communicate. Maybe you have been meaning to practice affirmations more, or to do more journalling, or to better communicate with your coworkers. Any intentions around improving our own mental clarity or our communication with others will work wonderfully this month.
We can also look at where the new moon is falling in your personal natal chart and form intentions around the house or planets being activated by the new moon. Look at see where 12-13 degrees of Gemini lives in your chart and create your intentions around this. For my own chart this new moon happens conjunct my Saturn and Midheaven and is also trine my Venus. So any intentions I set involving work, career, commitments (Saturn/Midheaven) or love, money, beauty or art (Venus) would be appropriate for me at this time. If you don’t know your own chart reach out to me and let’s talk about what area this new moon is illuminating for you!
The Sabian Symbol for the new moon is “A Famous Pianist Giving a Concert Performance”. This symbol speaks of mastery of a natural gift and sharing with the world in a very public way. Think about your own gifts and whether or not you are cultivating and training them. Are you sharing your gifts with the world? This is another area in which intention setting can greatly serve you.
Happy New Moon, all! Let yourself celebrate your own inner child in order to shine like you were always meant to shine!

The New Moon in Taurus occurs on May 4th at 15 degrees (rounding up). Taurus is an earth sign known for its determination and stubbornness, among other things. With this new moon we have the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment and to stand steadfast with our goals, even having suffered some recent setbacks, and we probably have suffered recently.
Let me step back from the new moon for a moment and discuss the planetary backdrop for a moment. About two weeks ago Pluto went retrograde at 24 Capricorn, then this past Monday Saturn went retrograde at 21 Capricorn, with the South Node betwixt and between causing all sorts of frustration, depression, and downright apathy lately. We have felt defeated, somehow, somewhere in our lives. We may have felt it’s useless or pointless to keep fighting. We have been in the darkness before the dawn and it’s been really, really dark. But dawn comes and this time it’s in the form of this lovely new moon in Taurus.
There are some strong vibrational patterns being activated by this new moon and they come down to two basic themes. First is that we can Create a Life and an Environment that is Ideal for us if we Focus our Thoughts and Daily Actions towards Manifesting this Reality. We can and we will, if we so choose. Second is that we can make a commitment to ourselves with Big Love that we are Worth It and that We Deserve both Harmony and Stability, Optimism and Pride. There is a Spiritual Undertone to all of this saying that hey, if we turn it over to the Angels that they have our backs. But if we ignore or bypass the spiritual support that is our Divine Right we are missing an Opportunity for Greater Connection in the Moment and for Growth in the Future.
These patterns might sound a little woo woo but let me tell you what’s really go on here. If we take the time every day (sun) to invest in feeling safe and comfortable (moon) and to make this a practice and pattern that we do daily then there is nothing that can stop us (Taurus). What habit or pattern can you imagine for yourself that would really up the quality of your personal life? It doesn’t have to be elaborate. What it really needs is to be practical and doable on a day to day basis.
For myself I have decided what this is going to look like in my own life. Each night after my kiddo goes to bed I often watch tv for an hour while my husband goes and works out. I figure it’s time for me to relax and I can unwind that way. But allergy season here in Dallas has been hard for me to adjust to and I have felt more stress in my body lately than usual and so I have a simple idea to take care of both of these issues at once. So as the new moon in Taurus begins I personally begin a new regimen of an evening shower to wash the allergens of the day off of me while de-stressing and taking some time for some much needed pampering that I admit I often neglect doing. How much healthier is it for me to allow myself an hour of spa time instead of an hour of tv? Do you agree that such a simple change in behavior can bring about a lasting improvement of how I feel each day? Added bonus it should help me sleep better as it sets up a lovely evening ritual of unwinding by honoring my own physical body and it’s needs. Enough about me and I think you get one example at least on how to implement this vibrational energy patterns into your own life.
The Sabian Symbol for the degree of the new moon is this: “Head covered with a rakish silk hat, muffled against the cold, a man braved a storm.” What better symbol for our current climate? We are all living in our own personal and collective storm. And we must bravely persist. I have seen some other astrologers jokingly remark that we should hunker down and take shelter with Saturn weighing down on us so much. I get the joke and I agree that you can do that for a brief moment, if it helps get you back up and on your way so that you can reach your destination. Don’t stop. Keep going. Brace against the metaphorical winds and onward we go. If we persist we will succeed. That sentiment is more Saturnian than anything. And by the grace of this new moon we get the cosmic support to keep going, keep striving, to not give up and see that we can in fact continue on with Taurean determination despite any and all obstacles that may or may not appear in our path.
So as you can see things haven’t been easy but there is a way through. There is relief in the form of practical reinforcements by our own stubbornness to let go of the goal as well as the fact that to be honest we have no choice but to continue. If we stop here the story ends. But it isn’t over. We embrace strength and we move forward, steadily, toward our goal.
