Energetically there is a lot going on this weekend. First we have Mercury station retrograde. Normally I don’t put a lot of emphasis on Mercury retrograde but this station is conjunct Saturn which means we are definitely going to feel it a lot more strongly than normal. We are also going to feel it in the classic ways of obstacles, blockages, communication problems, technology problems and internally we may struggle with negative thinking more than usual. I say these things so you can prepare and counter them if you notice them happening in your life. For example, you run into a traffic snafu. You can yell and shout and clench your fists or you can just know that this is a symptom of the Mercury retrograde energy and patiently wait for the traffic to clear. Either way you will get out of the traffic mess in the same amount of time, but one experience is much more pleasant than the other for you and for any passengers you may be carrying to your destination.
Mercury retrograde lasts for several weeks and the best way to use this energy is to review where you are and where you have been recently and to make any needed adjustments to your course. This process can involve editing, reworking, releasing things that might not be working, and perhaps most importantly reconnecting to your true internal vision. Remind yourself of your true purpose and recalibrate your life to reflect that purpose more authentically. The truth is that people just don’t like having to deal with recurring issues and I think that is really why Mercury retrograde gets such a bad rap in pop culture. But remember that by reviewing and re-aligning you are doing yourself a great service and look at this time as just that opportunity to be of service to yourself and to your larger goals. The other big thing that is happening this weekend is the full moon in Gemini and since the sign of Gemini is ruled by Mercury you can bet this is also enhancing the Mercury retrograde vibe. The Sabian Symbol for the degree of this full moon is “A Negro Girl Fights For Her Independence In The City”. To be honest I usually love Sabian Symbols and the images they invoke but this one is certainly dated and now seems a racist stereotype. But if we can accept that as time moves forward our old ideas become outdated and even offensive I think we can learn a lot about this symbol too. We are ready to release and let go of stereotypes that are keeping us oppressed and we are ready to embrace the freedom we see after shedding these bonds. So we ask some questions with this symbol in mind: Where are you feeling oppressed in your life? Are you fighting for freedom from that oppression? How can you let go of old ideas in order to create a more evolved and more independent life? I would love to hear the answers to some of these questions either here or in a message. For myself there is so much going on lately I am truly grateful for the opportunity to sit back and ponder these questions over the next few weeks. Happy Full Moon! And try to enjoy Mercury retrograde! Since it’s unavoidable we might as well enjoy it!
