The hermit represents the need to find a light in the darkness. We all know what darkness is, metaphorically speaking. Sometimes we feel very alone but the only way for us to learn how to deal with those feelings and authentic manner is to look within.
There is this quote I love, although I forget the source. So let me paraphrase: “The only thing we all have in common with each other is how alone we all are.” This quote is not meant to be depressing, rather, it’s to remind us that this loneliness is a part of being human, and that we all must learn to navigate it on our own terms. Looking within, calling upon the intuitive voice, sitting in silence, engaging in walking mediation, candle gazing, and so many other activities bring us closer to the inner voice of wisdom. It’s the small voice that we all have. But we all must practice listening to it if we wish to connect more fully. And some of us need more practice than others! LOL! But seriously. The only way to peace is inward. And once we determine the inner landscape and figure out how to navigate the hills and valleys, rivers and oceans of our inner world are we able to create a sense of lasting inner peace. Once we have found inner peace then, and only then, can we use our inner light as a guide for others, much like the light from The Hermit’s lantern goes in all directions. So too can our own inner peace spread to light the way for those around us, so that they, too, can figure out the road within themselves and find their own sense of inner peace. What are your thoughts on The Hermit? If you have an image of The Hermit from a deck you love I would love to see it! My card is from the Robin Wood Tarot and is surrounded by Samadhi Quartz on the top and Celestite below.
