![]() New Moon in Aquarius Friday, January 27, 2017 5:07 PM Mountain Time Setting Intentions With The New Moon I love Aquarius season. Maybe it is that I have my own sun in Aquarius but maybe it's because I love the idea of people being free to be themselves, whatever that might mean to them. One of the things being an Aquarius means to me is that it is not for us to judge the choices of others, but for us to relish to supreme diversity among us all. ![]() New Moons, in my opinion, are the most charged astrology events that occur on a regular basis whose energy is easy harnessed to use in your own life. I like to do a new moon ritual each month. It can be as simple or as complicated as I have time for, but here are the basic things I do in each new moon ritual. This ritual can take as little as fifteen minutes but as long as an hour or more, depending on how much time you have available for the task.
New moons activate an area in the chart in a way that allows us to harness the energy. The moon and the sun are conjunct, and having two luminaries in the same space brings a major amount of light to an area, especially if we have been living unconsciously. Living with purpose, living with intention, is my method for living with mindfulness and embracing the cycles of life actively instead of pretending I am an observer. I have power and if I choose to embrace it I can direct my life through practice and intention. The astrological component of this is knowing how the new moon may affect your chart personally. If you know your birth time this is easiest. The current Aquarius new moon occurs at 8-9 degrees Aquarius and so you look to that degree in your own chart. You see what house it falls in, you see what planets it activates. You create intentions based on the energy you see unfolding in the chart. ![]() For example, Aquarius is about freedom, it is about seeing the possibilities in solving the problems of humanity. One of the key words for Aquarius is humanitarian. An intention for myself, for this new moon, is “I intend to find a way to help with the international refugee crisis in order to aid in the alleviation of suffering.” I do not know how I will do this, maybe send money, maybe volunteer, but I find this issue has been really bothering me lately and this new moon gives me the energy to start to address it, at the very least. If you do not know your chart this is where an astrologer can help. You can look at the house where the new moon falls. In my case it is the fifth house of creativity, of children, of romance. I can create intentions based on these ideas. “I intend to spend more time creatively, specifically by helping my child with more creative projects as well as working more on my own creative writing.” Another is “I intend to continue investing in my romantic relationship with the goal of a minimum of one date night a month, at least!” This means planning for a sitter, planning and evening out, and not getting lazy about it! We love our daughter but it's a treat to have a child-free evening occasionally! You can also look at the aspects made in the new moon chart, either within the chart itself of inter-aspects to your own chart. This new moon opposes my natal moon and I have already set intentions involving lunar themes in the intentions to aid refugee children as well as furthering the creativity of my own child. So we see a theme here in my chart being highlight by this month. And if we look at your chart we may also see a theme or we may find many different areas being activated. The thing is you can decide for yourself where to focus. If one intention is enough for you then that is great! For others maybe they want to set a dozen intentions. If find with different months, depending on how strongly the new moon affects my own chart, I am more or less ambition with my intentions. There is a lot more to talk about when it comes to new moons but I will restrain myself and talk about just one more thing. The Sabian Symbol for this new moon is: A Flag is Seen Turning Into An Eagle I try to stay out of the politics but to me this is a reminder that our nation is more that a flag, and that what we represent, our values, find freedom, true spiritual freedom, through transformation. As a final intention for this month I shall say “I intend to cultivate positive transformation in my life and in my community through spiritual practice, through deliberate, peaceful design, and by acting from love to the best of my ability."
